🧬 Origins and Creation
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August 19622.
Stan Lee originally considered basing the character on a fly or insect before settling on a spider.
The hyphen in “Spider-Man” was intentional—to avoid confusion with Superman2.
🧑🔬 Powers and Personality
Peter Parker gained his powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider, granting him superhuman strength, reflexes, agility, wall-crawling, and a “spider-sense” that alerts him to danger.
He invented his web-shooters, which are mechanical devices—not organic like in some movie versions.
Spider-Man’s web is strong enough to hold The Hulk and dissolves within an hour.
🎭 Cultural Impact
Spider-Man was the first teenage superhero who wasn’t a sidekick, making him relatable to younger readers.
Former U.S. President Barack Obama’s favorite superhero is Spider-Man2.
There was even a Spider-Man Broadway musical called Turn Off the Dark, which ran from 2011 to 2014.
